Vacation Day 7 and 8

Day 7 we headed back to Assateague Island and hit the beach for the day. Well, for a few hours anyway.

I enjoy laying on the beach and relaxing and Steve really likes playing in the ocean so he was not too entertained when all I wanted to do was lay around and soak up the sun. He entertained me by sitting with me and reading his book.

I tried really hard to enjoy playing in the ocean but quite frankly it scares the crap out of me to get in the ocean so it was a little hard for me. Steve did some boogie boarding and I alternated spending time in the water near him and watching from the shore. I felt really bad because he really wanted to play in the ocean and I was trying really hard to enjoy it but those waves just freak me the hell out.

Later that evening we headed out to to a fancy dinner at Wright's Seafood on the water. I even got a little dressed up in one of my new fancy sundresses.

We were lucky enough to get a table right next to the window overlooking the Bay.

We had an amazing dinner. We started with alligator bites and I enjoyed bacon wrapped scallops as my main course. I can't remember what Steve had but I remember it was also amazing.

Our last day of vacation was bittersweet. We actually ended up heading home on Friday night instead of staying through Sunday. We'd done all of the things that we had really wanted to do so Saturday and Sunday would have been more of the same - relaxing, maybe the beach, wandering the island, and just hanging out. While it would have been nice we were ready to head home and sleep in our own beds and just be home before heading back to work on Monday (total bummer!)

We made one last fun trip to the island for breakfast and then we stopped by the Wallops Island visitor center.

It's quite a small place but it was fairly educational. Semi out of date, but still it was kind of neat. And it's free so that was an added bonus.

After that we headed back to the house for naps and relaxing cleaning up the house to head home.

Before we left we just had to go to Don's Seafood for all you can eat crabs. Probably not the best thing to eat before making a 4 hour car ride but hey they were still really good!

After dinner we finished cleaning the house and packed up the car and headed home. Since we left late we missed traffic again - go us! And we got home kind of late. I even managed to stay awake the entire ride home. I mean, I tried to sleep, but I figured that Steve could use the company so I stayed up with him. It was good to be home but I missed vacation almost immediately.

I'm definitely looking forward to heading back next year. Is it summer yet?!

Vacation Day 5 and 6

We spent Day 5 of vacation driving around the island and doing a little shopping!

We stopped at a few of my favorite stores. I didn't buy a whole lot, but that's not always the point of shopping. Especially at the beach. I have thousands of souvenirs from this place from all periods of my life. And I bought a couple things, but nothing extravagant. It was more fun window shopping and getting to spend all this quality time with my husband!

At the pony center they had several ponies from the previous month's festivities (they do a whole month long festivities around the pony swim - the swim, carnival, auctions, etc.)

The pony center does lessons for kids and stuff but I mostly just like to see them and take pictures of them. Buddy really enjoys them and we were supposed to take him back by there but we (this time I mean Steve) "forgot."

Later that evening we took Buddy by Mister Whippy! He likes going there because they give out treats to any dogs (cats too maybe?) the go through the drive-thru. So of course we had to go through the drive-thru which was incredibly hard for Steve because he got a cone and that's not so easy to eat while driving. But he managed. Because he rocks. And also because it's truly a small town so going slow and steady through town isn't minded one bit.

We spent Day 6 at Ocean City. I was really excited to hit the boardwalk and get fries, and ice cream, and pizza and to take in the sites and do a little more shopping.

We wandered up and down the boardwalk doing a little shopping along the way. Steve was on the hunt for sunglasses and I was on this kick for sundresses. We found sunglasses for Steve. And the deal was so good (2 for something) and I found an amazing pair that I had to get one too.

Even though I mainly wear my Rx glasses I decided to splurge on these beauties. And then I found a sundress to match because hello! I had to look cute haha.

Steve was excited to hit the beach because he'd never been to the beach at Ocean City. Really, he'd never been to Ocean City, MD before. They always did Rehoboth growing up so Ocean City was new to him. We went early in the day so the rides I was hoping to watch (not ride, because they are really kid rides, and clearly after the carnival I had learned my stomach and junk food and rides did not mix).

We had a really nice day walking up and down the boardwalk spending the day together and enjoying each others company. I also enjoyed people watching. And trying to figure out if at one time I looked and/or acted like the teenagers on the boardwalk.

Later that night we took Buddy for a trip to the island so we could get a beach umbrella because we'd be hitting the beach the next day. Buddy and I hung out in the car while Steve went in the store and Buddy took that as his chance to get behind the wheel and pretending to drive ;) After that we just hung out at the house resting our weary legs after all that walking and resting up for our big day to lay around on the beach!

Vacation Day 3 and 4

Vacation. Day 3. We went to visit the Assateague Island and the lighthouse. When we went last year we had Buddy in the car so we couldn't go on Assateague Island because it's a wildlife preserve and they don't allow animals on the island so I made sure this week we would go.

Sunday was National Lighthouse Day so we could walk up the lighthouse for free - but it was SO hot and the line was kind of long so we skipped the walk up the lighthouse for wandering around it and then driving around the island.

We (ok, I...) took our time wandering the path to and from and around the lighthouse. It's just so pretty I couldn't stop snapping pictures.

After the lighthouse we headed to the visitors center for some AC (seriously, it was really hot) and to make a pit stop at the bathroom. It's been a really, really long time since I've been in the visitors center so we wandered around there too and took in the history of the island.

We took a nice drive through Assateague Island and we even saw some of the wild ponies. Sometimes they are closer to the road, but this time they were a little farther away. Close enough for us to see, but not close enough for the lens I had with me. Made me definitely regret not bringing my long lens that's for sure.

Before heading home we drove by the beach. It made us regret not bringing our suits because it would have been nice to top off our very hot walk with a dip in the ocean but we hit up the pool back at the campground.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out with Buddy and made the most amazing seafood dinner (fresh scallops and shrimp. I love the Eastern Shore!)

We had kind of a relaxing day on our 4th day of vacation. We had been really go-go-go for the first couple days so we decided to split our time between hanging at the house with Buddy and hitting up the pool to relax.

Vacation Day 1 and 2

I'm going way back to August for this one. We took a week off, that didn't revolve around baseball, for the first time since our honeymoon. It was amazing. We both so very much needed a week off of work to relax and reconnect.

We hit the road mid-day Friday afternoon. Luckily for me I can work on the go thanks to the broadband card so this gave us the ability to beat the traffic heading over the Bay Bridge. And it worked! Our 4 hour drive was just that. A 4 hour drive.

Check out this traffic....er, the lack of traffic. On a Friday, heading over the Bay Bridge, during the summer.

Buddy kind of enjoys the ride. Well, at first he was nervous because we packed bags and he wasn't sure if he was going to wherever Steve and I were going. Once he realized he was going he was excited. And then it was longer than he was expecting and he was bored.

We made a pit stop to stretch all of our legs and it was quite welcomed. However, Buddy decided he wasn't going to have any water while we stopped no matter how much we tried. I even brought a bowl for him!

Once we were back in the car he decided he was thirsty. And our water bottles were perfect and exactly what he wanted. So I had to give him water out of the bottle. Of which he drank the entire thing! It was quite the site.

We pretty much just relaxed and unpacked the night we got there. But we were up and ready to go on Day 2! We explored the island. And it made me remember just how much I love this place.

While we were driving around we saw these scooters and Steve wanted to rent one so bad! So I said why not! And we rented one for an hour - which was plenty long enough to explore the tiny but oh so beautiful island.

We had lunch at a place I'd never been before. After all these years, I love knowing that I can still find new and great places in my favorite place.

Later that night we hit up the Fireman's Carnival. Which is another favorite memory of mine from my childhood. We went every single year. And it was always so much fun. It definitely made me miss my brother, but it was still really fun to spend the evening there with Steve!

It wasn't quite like I had remembered. Actually, that's not true. It looked exactly like I remembered it. But that's because the fair grounds are permanent ha!

We played a couple games and only rode 1 ride before my stomach said enough! But still it was a fun night and I'm glad that we were able to accidentally time our trip just right so we could make the last weekend of the carnival!

After the carnival we headed back to the house to hang out with the pup and relax for the rest of the night! We certainly were on the go all day but it was really a lot of fun!

Stay tuned for day 3 and 4. And 5 and 6. And 7 and 8. Basically, this week is all about our vacay.
